Whoops

I forgot about this thing again. There have been a few times where I was going to write, but then I wrote it somewhere else (secret OneNote diary) and then purged it from my system, where system is ‘brain’.

I wrote that paragraph in July sometime.

A lot has happened since the last time I updated. The major things being: finishing my first year at Waterloo, starting a new co-op work term, and Math orientation. There’s also a rather lovely thing in between those other major events somewhere in there too. :)

I’m currently crammed between a gray cubical wall and a nice, clear window in the office building. It’s the first day, so naturally there isn’t a lot to do. The other co-ops are all being trained. I don’t need to be trained again so I sit here with some reading to do. At least I can sit here and look outside. I think most of the people are supposed to move to a different building soon, so I might not have my view for long. It being only the first day, I have to say I like my office arrangement more than last term’s. Last term I was sticking out into a hallway near the central hub for coffee and lunch prep. It was very noisy during peak points of the day (namely lunch). Now I’m in a nice quiet corner with a gorgeous view. If I were to be here for the winter, it would probably get a bit chilly though. With lack of anything else overly excited to do, I’ve decided to update my past-proclaimed ‘daily’ blog. Like that ever happened.

School Stuff

First year at Waterloo is usually where all the nubs get weeded out. I’m happy to say I am not one of those weeds. I managed to pass everything and not be placed on academic probation. :D It was a very different experience from high school, and if anyone thinks they are the same, they are very wrong. There is less class time with more time you’re expected to learn things on your own. I know this and knew it before I started the year, but I still managed to slack off fairly well. I’m going to work a lot harder to do… better! Obviously I’ll never have marks like some other red-head girl does, but I hope to pwn the socks off some other people in some term down the road. First year went well. I improved from first term to second. ‘Nuff said.

Sidenote: Ugh. I’m trying to adjust my chair in between paragraphs. It is not co-operating. There are clear arrows and pulleys I need to pull, but they don’t budge. >_<

Apart from finishing the academic stuff at school, I just (as in last night) came back from Math Orientation 2008. It was kick-ass. I'm fairly certain it is more fun for the leaders to participate than the fros-I mean first years as well. I didn't do too much of my orientation because I was fairly sick of playing all those name games and ice breakers from camp. I know I missed out on some cool stuff, but that's fine. As a leader, however, it seemed generally more fun. We were all excited and pumped full of energy the entire time, but the frosh seemed bored out of their wits. The first meeting of all the first years was a huge success with a lot showing up. I could tell there would be at most half the next day. Turns out I was right. During the next few days, only about half or so of the original turn-out came back for more. There were some leaders that didn't show up either. My team lacked some people most of the time, but it was good enough. I only didn't show up on the Saturday which I heard no one else really showed up to (this makes it... okay? :D)

During the week I also lived in a corner of AndrewMatt's apartment with Qifan. That was awesome. We had the place to ourselves for a few days, and week-ish before that at my old place/new place combined. It was nice a quiet and we relaxed most of the time and did some fun stuff like go to a glass museum. We had a whole-day date one day too :)

Orientation was awesome, first year was a healthy experience, and Waterloo seems like a good place to be.

I am also sick of pizza. I don't want to eat it for a long time.

Back to Work

While my sister is entering university and most of my friends are back to school, I am in an office building. I don’t work at Wal-mart or have a fancy McJob. Last time I tested Crackberries, now I will be working on supplementary tools for testing, apparently anyways. I can’t really say much about what I’m doing now, only because I don’t know yet. It’s the first day and I’m a special co-op who doesn’t have to go through the Awesome Ultra Super Extended Orientation Training (2.0). I’m so glad. It’s dreadfully boring.

Pro: Window! Quiet, small space. Moving soon.
Con: No drawers to put stuff! Moving soon. Far away from tea station.

I think these windows are tinted. I don’t think it’s actually as dark as it looks outside. If half my face is red by the end of the day, I’ll at least know it’s not UV protective.

Misc.

I like Qifan. I got a haircut. I bleached Qifan’s hair blonde. It looks good. Parmesan cheese is my new crack. I like infinity. I’m thinking of random things to write, randomly.

Goals for work term:

  • PD3
  • Keep up with classes that people on the other stream are doing so I won’t be noob in the Winter.
  • Learn katakana and more words in prep for Japanese class in Winter.
  • Learn more C and other crazy things.
  • Generally be less nub.
